Update: Twitter Got Attacked!!!!

August 06, 2009 By: Mari Holt Category: Lead Exchange, Social Networking

It looks like too much of a good thing is bound to feel some affects from the “bad guys”… the hackers.
Twitter was down today because of a hacker attack on the micro-blog site. It sounds like as of now the site is back up. This article also spoke about the fact that some NFL teams and our US Marine Corps are banned from using the social networking site(s)…. goes along with today’s previous blog post about ESPN cracking down on it’s use too.

ESPN “Police” Regulate Employees Tweets

August 06, 2009 By: Mari Holt Category: Lead Exchange, Social Networking, Technology

Sounds like the employees of ESPN have gotten busted by the “twitter police”. ESPN has recently rolled out some new guidelines for acceptable behavior with social networking sites such as Twitter. The goal of these new guidelines was to provide guidance on how websites, blogs and social networking sites should only be used in a way to benefit ESPN.
lead exchange ESPN Police Regulate Employees TweetsThis brings up a good point about employers and the use of these social networking sites. A couple items come to mind when I think about these guidelines being implemented. First, there are a lot of people that might occupy a lot of work time to keep their fellow “tweeters”/Facebook “friends” etc updated on their daily activities. This affects them in their jobs and performing what they are paid there to do… work not Tweet. Secondly, social networking really has not been a part of our daily lives till recently, so there has to be some sort of guidelines implemented to help control what company information/news can be funneled through the social networking sites. If there are not guidelines, then sometimes the common sense factor will not come into play when releasing possibly some private information. However, there are a lot of companies that will use Twitter as a source of promoting their product or service, and I believe that is a different conversation. Promoting your company’s product or service should be okay, but there has to be guidelines on how much time is actually done doing that while working.
Leadpile does work on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, but in a way that does not violate any information that should not be disclosed improperly. It will not surprise me if we continue to hear stories like this one, because employers are having to set a precedence on how to effectively use the social networking sites while conducting business.

Short Term Credit Union Loans The Alternative To A Payday Loan?

August 04, 2009 By: Mari Holt Category: Financial, Installment Loan Leads, Lead Exchange, Lead Generation, Payday Leads

When someone needs some quick cash, most think of getting a payday loan because it is quick and no credit check is required. However, in recent years, credit unions have tried to come up with an alternative to a payday loan, but some seem to be similar in many aspects. Does this mean that our nation’s credit unions will be getting put under a microscope like most payday lenders? The unfortunate thing is that many of these consumers are needing “emergency” money, so places like credit unions are trying to jump in and help out their customers with creating these short term loans. There is certainly a need, or credit unions would not look at creating their own version of a payday loan, but really what is the difference? Is there some way all lenders can come together to create one “short term emergency loan” that can help our nations consumers get out of trouble? Leadpile hopes so, because we really want to continue to be able to generate leads of those that are looking to be connected with someone that can help them. Sounds like the credit unions and the payday lenders have a common goal >> help consumers! Right?

Our Nation’s Post Offices In Trouble?

August 03, 2009 By: Mari Holt Category: Lead Exchange, Lead Generation

lead exchange Our Nations Post Offices In Trouble?I don’t know about you, but can you remember the last time you went to a post office or mailed something? In the wake of email, online banking and other electronic methods of paying bills and communication, our post offices are suffering. MSNBC is stating that our nation’s post offices are looking at a potential loss of $7 billion this year. This means that the ability to operate all these post office locations is in jeopardy. There are nearly 33,000 post office locations and my guess would be the ones that could be in trouble would be the less populated areas. That only makes sense, but I think that we need our post offices to deliver to those that do not have computer access, those that need to still deliver registered letters/packages, and for those that still choose to receive “paper” copies of their bills.
So what is the resolution to this money issue with the post office besides just closing down offices? Could we see mail getting delivered less than 6 days a week? Leadpile and other lead generation companies are not necessarily focused on direct mail, however this is something that we are considering utilizing as a source of lead generation. I don’t really see the post office issue as affecting that decision.

Update 2: Cash For Clunkers Program Saved?

August 02, 2009 By: Mari Holt Category: Lead Exchange

Another new update for the Cash For Clunkers program is that the house approved more funding for the program to continue. There is now another $2 billion allocated for this program, however this appears not to be enough funding let the program continue for very long. The bill in now in the senate’s hands and they will have to vote on it to allow this program to continue. I still think this looks like something that is adding some “spark” to our nation’s dealerships, so I am hoping to see this program continue past this next week.
