Visual Search Unveiled For Bing & Google

September 16, 2009 By: Natasha Aronov Category: Lead Exchange, Lead Generation, Technology

Two of the most popular search engines have both released a new and innovative way to look at your search results . Bing.com and Google.com just introduced “visual search”. Visual search is going to allow the users to select search images rather then typing in key words.
The visual search lets users sort through popular search categories by using pictures. Yet Google’s new Fast Flip will show thumbnails of pages when searching for news stories, instead of the short descriptions and headlines the company usually provides.
With this new and unique way of searching topics and articles it is sure to bring more web traffic to both of these sites. People are always looking to check out new ideas, and this is definitely a fun new way to utilize both Bing and Google!

Google Is Trying To Stay One Step Ahead

September 16, 2009 By: Natasha Aronov Category: Affiliate Marketing, Lead Exchange, Lead Generation, Technology

Keeping up with the fast pace of the Internet advertising world is a challenge for anyone let alone a huge conglomerate such as Google. Google, which is constantly under a close eye by many in the online-marketplace for changing trends and new directions to follow is once again advancing in ways to attract consumers.
According to MediaPostNEWS Google has been advancing the advertising opportunities offered in many ways such as upgrades to its search engine, mobile, Adwords and AdSense platforms. Google has recently also re-vamped the placement of text ads making the over all look of the search page cleaner with less gaps improving the search experience.
Good news for Google investors is the hope that improvement in analytics and the Web site optimizer will prove to increase consumer spend by tracking traffic patterns and pin-pointing sites that attract high volumes of visitors. I mean really does this mean anything to the internet world, or is this something that they SHOULD be doing to stay in competition with the other search engines? Hopefully this sets the precedence that you have to continue to improve what you have and not take advantage of the fact that you are #1. Really Google could just sit in the first place of search engine use, and not look internally to improve, but instead they are being proactive to always look at ways to enhance what they have.

Banks Offering Payday Loans?

September 15, 2009 By: Mari Holt Category: Financial, Installment Loan Leads, Lead Exchange, Payday Leads

financial Banks Offering Payday Loans?I found this article interesting about payday loans maybe being offered at our nation’s banks. A few of the nation’s largest banks — including Minneapolis-based U.S. Bancorp, Wells Fargo & Co. of San Francisco, and Fifth Third Bancorp of Cincinnati — are now marketing payday loan-type products, with triple-digit interest rates, to their checking account customers. Really it is something that should have happened a while ago, or maybe now this is the perfect time to really give the industry a little better image. We have all discussed the need for these short term loans, however now that our banks will be looking at offering these types of loans, what does that do to the future our payday loans? Is this maybe the beginning of the segway into installment loans? What does something like this really mean?
Leadpile will probably be watching something like this because this could open up some doors on who to work with, but also how is this going to affect the future of the payday loan lead generation business? I think this is a GREAT thing to hear about regarding payday loans! The rest of America is waking up to the need for this sort of short term loan. It’s about time!!!!!!!

Consumers Are Particular On Who They Trust

September 13, 2009 By: Mari Holt Category: Affiliate Marketing, Lead Exchange, Lead Generation

Almost anything or anyone you want to know more about can be found on the internet. However, when you go to a website is there something that stands out as something that makes you “trust” that website as a reputable source versus another website? There are in fact certain reasons consumers seem to trust one site over another. Nielson Global did a survey on consumers to see what makes them trust a particular website and it’s advertising versus another.

Picture 14

What this information really tells all of us in the lead generation industry is, that maybe we need to continue to focus on how we can really become a more trusted source by consumers. TV, newspaper and other sources came out ahead of methods such as banner ads, mobile and other online lead generation methods. The question then is how do we increase the trust level our consumers have for websites we are working with to generate leads? Brand recognition is pretty high on the list of trusted sources, however not everyone has a brand that is known, or the financial ability to generate that awareness.
Leadpile, and I am sure all other lead generation companies, are all looking at this sort of information as informative, but how can we take this information and apply it to what we do?

Are We Effectively Able To Track Mobile Advertising?

September 10, 2009 By: Mari Holt Category: Affiliate Marketing, Lead Exchange, Lead Generation, Social Networking

One of the newest forms of advertising is mobile adverting/SMS marketing. Being that this form of lead generation is completely different, there has to be alternative ways to measure success. After looking into this further, Gigaom.com pointed out some valid points on how mobile advertisers can effectively track stats.

Reach

How many unique customers can you reach? Reach is still the most important criterion for advertisers to judge success of a campaign. With mobile we can measure unique users much more accurately than with any other medium. Mobile offers the opportunity for the advertiser to the reach the consumer at the right time and the right place using the right medium with the right message.

Targeting

Mobile thrives on targeting. Ad networks that can provide targeting beyond country, carrier and handsets to offer more granular location, demographic and contextual options will be the ones offering more value to both advertisers and publishers.

Engagement

We don’t want to just capture the “moment of first sight” but the “duration of sight” and how the user interacts within that duration with both the individual ad and the overall campaign. In order to differentiate and be effective, mobile has to measure and report on how users are engaging with the campaign, from first impression to the last so-called “moment of sight.” It should take into account the time spent during the visit as well as the actions and reactions.

Viral

One of mobile’s key features is its ability to offer users one-click sharing. If something is “good,” it will catch on fast. One has only to target power users, who represent just 1 percent of mobile users, to reach 20-50 percent of the subscriber base. Such capability should be built into every campaign and measured accurately to determine its true effectiveness.

Transactions

Mobile enables a closed loop functionality like no other medium. Transactions are essentially a measure of the “true” ROA. We need to measure how a campaign impacts a company’s bottom line. If the campaign doesn’t move the needle over time, it didn’t really work, but we won’t know whether or not it has without measuring.

Leadpile has seen some successful publishers generating quality leads through mobile advertising, however after reviewing some of these point, maybe there are some enhancements Leadpile and other networks need to look at implementing. How big will mobile advertising get?

Internet History: Did You Know?

September 08, 2009 By: Mari Holt Category: Lead Exchange

We all know the importance of the internet in all of our lives, however there are some things that will go down in history. It’s like when a baby does little steps, talks, goes to school etc, you want to know what led up to that child to become who they are today. The internet is our world’s little baby!
11 Points.com points out some very interesting facts about “our” internet:

1. The first image posted on the internet was in 1992. This image was a random picture of 4 women.
2. The first email sent was back in 1971 by a programmer named Ray Tomlinson.
3. The first spam email to go out was in 1978 by a company called DEC (which is no longer in business).
4. The first banner ad was created by AT&T in 1994.
5. The first item sold on eBay was a broken laser point in 1995.
6. The first Tweet was performed by one of the founders of Twitter back in 2006.
7. The first search engine (called Archie) was created back in 1990.
8. The first domain name registered (symbolics.com) was in 1985.
9. The first YouTube video was created in 1995.
10.The first pornographic website registered was in 1994.

No matter how involved you are in the internet today, there is a deep history involved in what happened in previous years to create what we all call the internet today. I can’t wait to see the new list of “first” in 5-10 more years……… It’s such a big beast with so MUCH more potential!

Robocalls Are No Longer Legal

September 04, 2009 By: Mari Holt Category: Auto Lead Exchange, Financial, Lead Exchange, Lead Generation, Lead Verticals

In a previous blog post, I discussed the FTC cracking down on those that were making “robocalls” to consumers. These were calls where a computerized message was placed to consumers about things such as car warranties. Well now it is official- The FTC (Fair Trade Commission) has enacted new rules forbidding the prerecorded commercial telemarketing calls to consumers without written permission from the consumer. These calls being eliminated has created a lot more buzz for internet generated leads, because now businesses need to get the most targeted people they can for their buck. A perfect example of this is the car warranty leads. The car warranty industry was very much involved in having these pre recorded calls placed to consumers to drum up business. Now that this is illegal, many advertisers are reaching out to companies like Leadpile for the targeted car warranty leads where the consumer physically opted in for information about a car warranty. Other verticals like debt and repairing your credit are services that were using robo type of calls and will be counting more on people like us to get these targeted consumers.
The ironic thing that just happened to me. I just received a robocall from a lender wanting to try and modify my home loan. Unfortunately, I tried to get a live person on the phone and was unsuccessful. I guess these new FTC rules didn’t scare everyone.

Want To Pay for Facebook Friends?

September 03, 2009 By: Mari Holt Category: Affiliate Marketing, Lead Exchange, Social Networking

Believe it or not there is a network out there promising if you pay, they can increase your Facebook friends. Does more friends really = something worth paying money for? With today’s use of social networking, I might have to say yes. According to Adage.com, as we all know Twitter and Facebook are effective marketing tools, so maybe the idea of companies really getting into this and helping others build their “friends” list, could be an effective idea. If “friends” = more money then this is certainly something I could see other marketing companies looking into doing. Nothing is free and who has time to try and generate 5000 new friends like this company says they can help you do? Great idea.. hope it works out for this company! At the present time, Leadpile will continue to build our “friends” list and Twitter “followers” little by little.

Yahoo Taking on Twitter??

lead exchange Yahoo Taking on Twitter??

With the explosive popularity of Twitter, many companies have attempted or are attempting to become players in this space.  You can now add Yahoo to the list of companies that are rolling out a strategy.

Yahoo has already developed a Portuguese and Spanish microblogging platform, and an English version is already accepting invitations to the program.  You can go here to see the new site. Reviews of the other versions have been mixed at best, so it will be interesting to see if Yahoo is spending their time and resources wisely in entering this space.

Nursing Homes Getting Into Payday Loans?

September 01, 2009 By: Mari Holt Category: Financial, Lead Exchange, Payday Leads

financial Nursing Homes Getting Into Payday Loans?

I came across this article about nursing homes providing payday loans to it’s employees and it intrigues me because this just goes to show you that there really are a lot of people that need extra short term cash. Nursing homes offering their employees short term loans might not be the answer to helping those that need help, but the point is that there are people everywhere (working and not) that are looking for some short term help. Regulating nationwide payday lenders to the point that causes places like nursing homes to provide loans really the answer? OR coming up with a solution to help those that need short term cash the answer? There has to be a middle ground where getting short term loans should be easier than having to necessarily go to your employer …right? Nursing homes are for taking care of our elderly AND payday lenders are for taking care of those in need of getting some quick cash. The payday lenders should not be taking care of the elderly and the nursing homes I do not believe should be lending money.
