Microsoft describes Bing as the new “decision engine”. Being that Google dominates about 3/4 of the search engine world, Microsoft is hoping to get a bigger piece of the pie with Bing. Bing will emphasize categorization and depth in search results in an attempt to compete with Google for market share in addition to ad dollars. Looking at Bing it looks a lot like Google, but when searching it tends to bring up a little more in depth information. Will the Leadpile publishers and affiliate marketers utilize this new search engine to generate traffic/leads?

Are you ever watching your favorite television show and some sort of advertisement comes on that really you have no interest in? I know I know a lot of us don’t really care for advertisements at all, but what if the ads that are on your t.v. are things you are potentially interested in? How about if you’re watching a show like Home Shopping Network, and you can then use your remote control, push a few buttons, and charge a purchase from your television? How about voting for your favorite reality show contestant without using your phone?
All these are things that our televisions are going to be soon allowing us to do in addition to relevant commercials. NPRNews points out, “Consumer advocates worry about marketers compromising our privacy by rummaging through our viewing habits and getting us to trade personal information for coupons.” Potentially these marketing companies will know everything you have purchased, however they will not know detail information such as your name. Is this sort of thing crossing the line on your personal t.v time? This sort of thing is already happening with the internet (behavioral targeting) and websites you are visiting (cookies), so why not with your television too? How many times a day do you open up an email that contains some strange prescription drug or nudity content?  How many minutes or hours a day does it take out of your day to delete these emails?  If you are like everyone else, there is a large amount of time spent on dealing with spam emails.  On the flip side, did you ever think how much time and energy spammers spend on generating these waste of time emails?

An interesting article in DMConfidential pointed out some facts about spam and the waste of energy these emails cost the world. The article pointed out, “Spam-related energy use could have powered the homes of everyone who flew on an airplane on a day in 2008 (2.2 million), or the country of Jordan.” In a “eco-friendly” world that we have become, bringing to light some of the wasted energy causes is probably a good thing. I am not sure really it will make a “spammer” say I am not going to send out these emails, however maybe it will get some of us who don’t like the emails to seek out those doing it and stop them.
Lead generation and companies doing their own marketing often times involves some sort email marketing. Email marketing is a cost effective way to generate traffic. However, is this something Leadpile Lead Exchange and other companies will eventually eliminate because of it’s lack of effectiveness and the “bad” name (and huge carbon footprint) spammers have caused it to get? OR is this just another article trying to get more of the McAfee product sold?  You decide.

I have to say there are so many beautiful places to see in New York City.  This week the city was also the host city for the Ad-Tech New York conference.  Seeing some old, new and familiar faces is always nice to see at any industry conference.  We were also a sponsor at the Glam Interactive Group party, which we were very happy with the outcome of this gathering.  Great event to network at!  Also, thanks to the great city for hosting this conference, and we look forward to seeing all our affiliates at the next conference!  There was also some beautiful places we were thankfully able to see.

Leadpile - the value of a Lead Marketplace/ExchangeWhen and why a Lead Exchange would work? I’ve read many articles on this topic and none seem to understand why an Exchange would work. Mostly it’s because they don’t know what Affiliate Marketing is, and how to generate revenue by promoting websites online. 

We all know that behind every online business stands the “Traffic”. The traffic a website has determines the revenue the site will make. After you have the traffic, you need to have the smart people behind it that understands what to do with it. 

The value of a Lead Exchange stands in its Lead Generation capability, the Network of Affiliates they have, and what tools they make available to its partners.

Grim news on Stimulus check spending

According to MSNBC today the numbers are in and retailers lost money, even though the 100 billion dollars worth of stimulus checks have been mailed out by the government. So where did all that money go?
A little over 1/4 of the Americans who received these checks used it for paying off some credit card bills. Only 11% used the money on discretionary items such as electronic items and travel.
Grocery stores to retail stores were offering discounts to come into their stores, to spend their stimulus money on THEIR products. Some retailers placed radio and television ads with reference to spending their stimulus checks at their stores. They all have reached for a piece of the pie.
It appears the winners were discount retailers such as Walmart, Target and Costco. The loosers, that were unfortunately not able to benefit, were department stores and clothing stores. So maybe it is a good time to go out there to get some REALLY good deals!!!!!
Another area that felt some negative effects of the stimulus checks was the payday loan industry. If consumers are getting checks from the government, then they don’t necessarily need a payday loan. However, everything seems to be headed back in the right direction for payday lenders/lead generators. Leadpile Lead Exchange focuses a lot of the payday vertical, so our heart goes out to all our affiliates that felt any negative effects of the stimulus checks going out.

I read a great statement on the Pontiflex blog, stating something about the fact that online advertising (also lead generation) is like drilling oil… either you hit the oil right away or you move on. Take risks as a company, get into new lead types, and create new ideas to change up how you work.
