Testing in Canada, Ay?

Canada is no longer an out of the way market that U.S companies do not want to do business with. Many of the hot Canadian companies are all coming together to try to sell themselves. These agencies are going to be traveling around the United States to show marketers that cities like Montreal and Quebec are the ideal new hot spot for market testing. Why is this? According to adage.com, “its language barrier prevents much outside media from seeping in, and vice versa — makes it an ideal place for U.S.-based marketers to experiment with new ideas and approaches before rolling them out to wider audiences.”
Several larger companies such as MasterCard and Mazda are way ahead of the game and have been utilizing Canada as a test market for several years now, both with great success. By testing in a smaller market with a smaller budget, marketers are able to see what works and what does not with out throwing their whole budget out the door. This also allows companies to try a more “out of the box” method.
LeadPile is a head of the game when it comes to working in Canada. Currently we are generating Canadian payday leads in Ontario. We are finding great success generating leads in Ontario and have plans to expand to some of the other Canadian markets.

Online Direct Response Marketing To Increase

The days of newspaper and magazine advertising seems to be becoming more and more extinct as businesses turn to online direct response advertising. Online direct advertising incorporates lead generation, search and online directories into one category and then there is national and local digital media. Businesses seem to be turning more and more to generating clients through search and other more “targeted” media because of the better end result = more business. The costs to print newspapers and magazines has not become as profitable as in previous years because many are not turning to print to get their news, they are turning to a more instant “fix” like the internet. Knowing this, publishers and advertisers are also turning to the internet for customer’s attention. Lead generation companies, like Leadpile, have become more and more in demand as the cost to convert even things such as a television ad to a interested customer rise.
Biz report points out that, “Besides online search, the forecast predicts that online direct response marketing, a new category in 2009, will increase by 2.9%.” Other reports show that by 2014 this sort of advertising is set to increase by 10%. This is great news for lead generation companies and our search engines. However, the picture does not seem as good for national digital media (rich media, online video, email, display and mobile) which is set to decrease by 11%, and local digital media (ie: television, radio and newspapers) to decrease by 5%. The good news is the report also points out that both are set to rebound in future years.
My question is how are other advertising sources, besides online media, going to adapt to increase their revenue? This has to be something that is very challenging for many companies who have built empires by using these non-online media companies (ie- newspapers and magazines). I can’t imagine how people survived in earlier years without the internet, and the capabilities it has to reach so many people in such a little place (computer). This reminds me of growing up and parents stating they did not have televisions or things like calculators in their daily life. I could never understand how they survived, which I know now sounds silly. What will be the next innovative creation that will change our world???????? Who will discover it?

The Effects Of An Icon Dying-Michael Jackson

It is not the most amazing thing the effects an “icon” can have on the media? All major networks changed what they were broadcasting this evening because of Michael Jackson passing away, and internet sites are all bombarded by searchers. I am not sure if you are one of those people that heard the possibility of something bad happening to Michael Jackson earlier in the day, but Leadpile was. Scrambling to find out what was going on with this icon was what was on the TV, the radio AND the internet. How amazing is that that someone has so much impact on the whole world? The media (internet, radio and television) is so so powerful to convey such an icon’s legacy!

According to emarketer.com, 2009 is going to be the year of spending advertising dollars on online video.

US marketers responded on how they plan to spend their 2009 online marketing budgets.

Of the people surveyed, here is who plans on spending their budgets on what:

1.  Online video  (66.8%)

2.  Social media   (41.6%)

3.  Search    (34.1%)

4.  Podcasts/webcasts (32%)

5.  Rich media  (30.5%)

6.  Banner ads   (22.8%)

7.  Mobile  (17.4%)

8.  Other   (6.8%)

This shows that more than two-thirds of respondents said they would focus their budgets on online video in 2009. According to the article, “eMarketer estimates that spending on online video advertising will grow to $4.6 billion in 2013, representing a more than sevenfold increase from the $587 million spent on the format in 2008.”  Therefore, if you are not planning on doing any online video with your marketing campaigns, you might want to at least entertain the idea.  Leadpile Lead exchange is utilizing online video to educate the public on Leadpile. This conference has been around for more than 10 years bringing together media, marketing and technical professions. Generation V “virtual”

There is generation “X” and baby boomers that we all hear about, however have you ever heard of Generation “V”? Generation V is the generation of the future… the generation that is dealing with online EVERYTHING. Unlike the other generations, Generation V is not defined by an age, gender, social class or where they live. However, this generation is based on what they can and have achieved, accomplishments, and an increasing desire for the use of digital media channels to discover information and build knowledge. If you are a company that is not online… you better be soon!
According to marketingcharts.com, 80% of generation V will be “lurkers”. These are people that will reap the rewards of the online world. Others are trying to be apart of the online world by participating in the activites such as blog posts, forums, and YouTube. Those is previous years did not do such things to keep an online presence, however this is something that companies need to take a look at when dealing with how they market their company online. Defined demographics of consumers are a way of the past, because it is getting harder and harder to determine those that are online and buying the product.
Companies must change around how their online presence is represented, because so many people are using the internet as their only source for information and other key aspects to their daily lives. Why is it though that many create accounts in places such as dating sites, email providers and blogs, that is not themselves (anonymous)? Are they trying to protect themselves from people knowing who they really are? Not sure on why Generation V does this, but we will see how much more the online world really affects various things such as retail, dating, lead generation and other up and coming industries.
I have to say the publishers I work with in the Leadpile Lead Exchange are mostly going to be considered Genration V. These are people that live, breath and do everything around the internet.
We welcome all generations to our marketplace, but I have a feeling there will be much more Generation V making up the Leadpile Lead Exchange!

According to TNS Media Intelligence (as reported by Emarketer), Automotive advertising spending in the US dropped to $1.99 billion in Q1 2008. That was down more than 14% compared with Q1 2007.

This does not surprise me that much as we predicted in 2005 that more and more Automotive Advertising would be spent online in the years to come. While the overall automotive advertising spending decreased, Internet spending was up 57.9% last year, to $441.6 million.

What does this mean to our Automotive Lead Exchange Participants? Simply put, being in the middle of the online auto lead space is not a bad place to be at all. Carpe Diem!

 

Newspapers becoming extinct?

Is it possible that an age old tradition is going to go extinct? Looks like there might be some truth to this.
According to NBC Nightly News and MSNBC.com, the internet age is/has been taking over the print media world. Is that why there was a large reduction in staff at The Boston Herald, San Francisco Chronicle, Chicago Tribune, and some other major newspaper recently? Yes, it is true, that our nation’s major newspapers are having to make some changes. These changes involve laying off staff, but also reorganizing the employees that still work there. For instance, reporters are now becoming online reporters and having to adjust how they report their stories, and how this story is presented online VS seeing it in print.
Believe it or not, this media change is also affecting the sports world and the real estate world for places like Chicago, IL. The Chicago Tribune has already put The Chicago Cubs and Wrigley Field up for sale! Yep, America’s favorite pastime is also being affected by this internet craze. Maybe that means the next stadium is going to be called “Google Field”? So what really happened in newspaper world?
Some feel that when they will read something in a newspaper it is not “real-time”. Most Americans have a laptop or personal computer at their fingertips all day long. This makes it easy for someone to just do a search online to find out the latest news. Whereas the newspaper from this morning might have contained some HOT news, but it was HOT 8 hours ago.
Is that how everyone feels? Is everyone addicted to “googling” everything, and putting aside those daily newspapers that Fido chases from the newspaper boy? It appears there really is not much choice. News is keeping with the times, and getting more accessible to consumers is where it HAS to be.
Online media- what has it become? We all eat, drink and sleep the internet. Everything from our banking, purchasing products, searching directions, applying for loans, corresponding with peers at work, to rolling out of bed and opening up the laptop to see what the latest news is. Unfortunately, this brilliant world of the internet has caused some hardships in the newspaper world, however places like Ebay, Leadpile Lead Exchange, auto dealers, advertisers, Craigslist, and news websites have become a major part of the world’s new national pastime (and maybe Fido the dog can enjoy it with us too)!
